He was appointed Rector of the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception
(Manila Metropolitan Cathedral) on July 1, 2015. At 37 years old, he is the
youngest to be appointed to administer the premier church of the Archdiocese of
Manila and of the Philippines. He concurrently serves as the Private Secretary of
the Archbishop of Manila (since January 2005); as Chancellor (since August
2015); and as Episcopal Vicar for Chancer Matters (since September 2015).
Fr. Regie is the eldest son of Emmanuel Blancaflor Malicdem and Amelita
Aguilera Rivera. He was born on March 9, 1978 in Mandaluyong City. He has a
younger brother, Reinier Malicdem.
He studied at Lourdes School of Mandaluyong from 1983 to 1994 for his primary and secondary education.
He graduated Second Honorable Mention and a candidate of the St. Francis
Award. He entered San Carlos Seminary for his seminary formation. In 1999, he
graduated Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, magna cum laude. In 2004, he
graduated Master of Arts in Theology, summa cum laude.
He took up post-graduate studies at San Beda University Graduate School of
Liturgy and graduated in 2011, summa cum laude. His masteral thesis is on “The
Liturgical Calendar of the Archdiocese of Manila” under the guidance of Fr.
Anscar J. Chupungco, OSB. In 2017, he obtained his doctorate in liturgy from
the same university, summa cum laude.
Fr. Regie was ordained deacon by His Eminence Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales
on March 20, 2004 at the Manila Cathedral. He was assigned as a resident
deacon at St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Singalong, Manila.
On September 8, 2004, he was ordained priest by His Eminence Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales at the Manila Cathedral.
Fr. Regie is also a member of the Board of Consultors and the Presbyteral Council of the Archdiocese of Manila.
He is also a guest professor of liturgy and theology at San Carlos Seminary in
Makati City, CICM Maryhill School of Theology in Quezon City, Immaculate
Conception Seminary in Bulacan, and at the Graduate School of Liturgy of San
Beda College in Manila.
